After eight albums on various labels, New York native Alexis Cole joined audiophile-focused Chesky Records in 2014 for " A Kiss in the Dark ," which showcased the company's innovative binaural recording technique. Featuring Cole and her band (guitarist Saul Rubin, saxophonist and clarinetist Dan Block, bassist Pat O'Leary, and drummer Phil Stewart) performing live with a single high-resolution microphone, "A Kiss in the Dark" found the velvety-voiced singer delving deeply into early jazz history, giving a contemporary twist to songs primarily from the late 1910s and early 1920s. Ranging from uptempo swingers ("Chicago, That Toddlin' Town") and evocative blues ("Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out") to dreamy ballads ("Indian Summer"), "A Kiss in the Dark" demonstrates why Alexis Cole's golden voice belongs among the most prestigious of American jazz singers. The album, reissued on 180g One Step Pressing vinyl LP, was released on October 17, 2025.
