János Starker (1924–2013) was a Hungarian-born American cellist, considered one of the greatest of the 20th century. Renowned for his impeccable technique and precise interpretations, he ranged from baroque to contemporary repertoire. He taught at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, training generations of musicians and recording works by Bach, Beethoven, and Dvořák to widespread international acclaim.
