There are ideas that seem to have always been in one's head. Others strike you like lightning when you least expect them. "Capturing" a jazz evening on a CD, for example, where the atmosphere and ambient sounds are the absolute protagonists along with instruments, acoustic ones naturally, musicians, and the audience. The Alexanderplatz and Massimiliano Coclite, two lightning bolts that collided in my brain one autumn afternoon.
An AudioRecords with the incredible passion for music of Eugenio Rubei, the heart and soul of the Alexanderplatz, and the inexhaustible artistic and musical vein (two different things, because an artist may not be a musician) of Massimiliano. It was just a matter of figuring out if and when. And above all, how. I didn't want the usual recording, "live" but aseptic, all perfect, all "rehearsed" (as a Tuscan musician friend used to say, "with applause coming in on the upbeat"). No artificial reverberation. Nothing that had to sound "good at all costs." I wanted the true sound of the Alexanderplatz, with the instruments, those and no others, used in the two subsequent performances, with the voices of the audience, with the "heart" of the musicians and not with a "sequenced" performance.
And for this, the musicians had to put themselves out there, as only the "greats," the real ones, dare to do. The lightning struck deep. Thanks to Eugenio, who immediately understood the potential of the band, the project became a reality. Thanks to Massimiliano's genius and the group of friends who, together, brought this event to life, the music you hold in your hands is true, intense, made of notes and heart. And thanks to Stefano Isola, with whom the harmony of intentions was almost telepathic, all the magic of the two evenings at Alexanderplatz is in that music!
Enjoy listening.
