Collection: Direct Sound Records

Direct Sound Records is an independent label with roots in London and Rome, specialising in the recording of acoustic music. Its catalogue is conceived to bring the listener closer to the physical presence of the performers, with a particular focus on classical music, jazz and ensembles in which timbre, space and dynamics are essential parts of the experience.

The pursuit of sonic presence

The label’s work combines artistic planning with sound research. Microphone placement, the natural acoustics of each venue and a carefully selected recording chain are used to preserve depth, proportion and instrumental localisation. The aim is a convincing three-dimensional soundstage that retains the breath of the performance and the relationship between musicians and space.

Editions for high-fidelity listening

Direct Sound Records publishes music in DSD and PCM Hi-Res digital formats, on vinyl and, for selected productions, on reel-to-reel analogue tape. Each title retains its own editorial identity: available media and edition details are listed on the relevant product page.

This collection brings together the Direct Sound Records releases available from Reference Music Store, from complete albums to sampler selections.
