Morricone and Piazzolla in a dialogue for flute and guitar

Atmosfere is the debut album from Direct Sound Records. Marco Ferraguto and Salvatore Fortunato shape an intimate, cinematic programme in which Ennio Morricone’s lyricism meets the rhythm, nostalgia and theatrical tension of Astor Piazzolla. Flute and guitar act as two voices: transparent and suspended at one moment, tightly drawn into the gesture of tango at the next.

The Morricone medley brings together themes from Cinema Paradiso, Gabriel’s Oboe and The Legend of 1900. The second part of the programme moves through four Piazzolla tableaux, from Bordel 1900 to Concert d’aujourd’hui, following tango’s evolution through memory, café, nightclub and concert hall.

Recording and sound

Recorded in March 2024 at the Cappella Universitaria San Tommaso d’Aquino in Rome, the album originated in stereo DSD128. The chapel’s natural acoustics contribute to the depth of the soundstage and the audible breath of both instruments. The process identified as Pure DSD128 – Analog Mixed includes an analogue stage during mixing before the DSD master.
