Walter, Morini & Busch: Brahms & Busoni — Violin Concertos

Bruno Walter accompanies two major violinists in two concertos: Erica Morini in Johannes Brahms’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and Adolf Busch in Ferruccio Busoni’s Violin Concerto, Op. 35a with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

The two works contrast Brahms’s great Romantic concerto with Busoni’s concertante writing, with Walter at the centre of two historically significant solo collaborations.

What are DSD and DXD?

DSD (Direct Stream Digital) is a 1-bit digital encoding system based on pulse-density modulation. DSD64 operates at approximately 2.8 MHz, DSD128 at approximately 5.6 MHz and DSD256 at approximately 11.2 MHz. Playback requires a DAC or player compatible with the selected DSD rate.

DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition) is a very high-resolution PCM format; in the version presented here it operates at 352.8kHz. Developed also as a professional editing and post-production environment, it requires a compatible DAC or player.
