This live album brings together some of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's most significant orchestral compositions, performed by three of the world's most prestigious orchestras: the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under the authoritative baton of Sir Georg Solti. The first CD features two of the Russian composer's most beloved symphonies: the Fifth, with its dramatic power and lyrical impulses, and the Sixth, the celebrated Pathétique , which stands out for its poignant melancholy and emotional intensity.
The second CD opens with the delicate and inspired Serenade for Strings, Op. 48, Tchaikovsky's homage to the classical tradition, imbued with elegance and refinement. The collection closes with the celebrated Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23 , performed superbly by pianist Sir Clifford Curzon, accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic. This is an ideal anthology for exploring the romantic soul of this Russian genius.
