Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74 “Pathétique” and the 1812 Festival Overture, Op. 49 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky are presented in this edition with Eugene Ormandy and The Philadelphia Orchestra.
Registrations
The program combines Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, ending with the Adagio lamentoso, with the celebratory construction of the 1812 Overture.
Eugene Ormandy and The Philadelphia Orchestra
Ormandy guides the orchestra through the strong dynamic and timbral contrasts of the two scores, from the tension of the “Pathétique” to the ceremonial scale of the 1812 Overture.

What are DSD and DXD?
DSD (Direct Stream Digital) is a 1-bit digital encoding system based on pulse-density modulation. DSD64 operates at about 2.8 MHz, DSD128 at about 5.6 MHz and DSD256 at about 11.2 MHz. Playback requires a DAC or player compatible with the selected DSD rate.
DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition) is an ultra-high-resolution PCM format; in the version offered here it operates at 352.8kHz. Developed also as a professional editing and post-production environment for ultra-high-resolution workflows, it requires a compatible DAC or player.
