Ferenc Fricsay conducts Gioachino Rossini’s Stabat Mater in a live Berlin performance from 22 September 1954, with Maria Stader, Marianna Radev, Ernst Haefliger, Kim Borg, the RIAS Symphonie-Orchester and Berlin choral ensembles.
Recording
The performance brings together RIAS-Kammerchor, RIAS-Knabenchor, Berliner Mädchenchor and Chor der St. Hedwigs-Kathedrale Berlin with the RIAS Symphonie-Orchester under Fricsay. It was recorded live on 22 September 1954 at the Konzertsaal der Berliner Hochschule für Musik.
Recording technique
The recording is monophonic.
Reissue history
For the later Audite 95.587 edition, issued in 2009 as a “1st Master Release”, the transfer was made from Deutschlandradio archive tapes. Restoration for that specific reissue included cautious noise reduction, manual click removal and attenuation of some audience coughs.
