Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker perform a programme devoted to Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms, bringing together Liszt’s large-scale symphonic works and a selection of Brahms’s Hungarian Dances.

Recordings

The programme combines Liszt’s symphonic poem Mazeppa and two Hungarian Rhapsodies with seven Hungarian Dances by Brahms. The recordings were made in Berlin in 1961 and 1962, with Günter Hermanns as sound engineer and original production by Deutsche Grammophon.

DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition) is a very high-resolution PCM format at 352.8kHz. Developed also as a professional editing and post-production environment for very high-resolution workflows, it requires a compatible DAC or player.
