René Leibowitz
René Leibowitz (1913-1972) is remembered today primarily as an important French conductor of Polish origin. Beyond this, Leibowitz was above all a composer (with a catalogue of around 90 compositions) and a highly respected musicologist, author of a fundamental History of Opera and the first philological revision of Beethoven's Symphonies (whose recording we recently published, Urania WS 121. 278). This box collects the few recordings Leibowitz made between 1954 and 1962, and in any case it is the only document that testifies to the art of this important conductor, whose discography, unfortunately, is reduced to a few significant audio testimonies.
