Notes
Adriano Lincetto and Silvio Omizzolo were two Italian composers who lived through the musical history of the 20th century, both passing away at the end of the century.
United by the fact that the former was a student of the latter, they later shared many common musical experiences, including the important role of directing the Cesare Pollini Conservatory of Music in Padua, at different times, and an intense concert activity as distinguished and esteemed pianists.
Silvio Omizzolo's Concerto for cello, strings and piano belongs to the great tradition of Central European music of the mid-20th century, finding illustrious references in authors such as Bartok and Stravinsky. Clearly structured in the concerto form, it offers the cello important virtuoso opportunities.
The Suite "I Sogni di Gianò" by Adriano Lincetto was derived by the composer himself from his original incidental music written in 1969 as the soundtrack to the one-act pantomime of the same name by Cornelia Mora Taboga. It is strongly descriptive and evocative music, which bases its strength on an uninterrupted series of poignant melodies, permeated by the deepest and most cultured Italian tradition, but rich in "French" echoes, in homage to the Parisian setting of the story of the tramp Gianò, which takes place in a forgotten, timeless Paris.
Recorded in the usual live-in-studio format at the Cesare Pollini Auditorium in Padua, this album features the heartfelt interpretation of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto conducted by Fabio Framba, with Damiano Scarpa as cello soloist, Pierluigi Piran on piano and Silvia Regazzo, who performs an important vocal solo cameo within the Suite I Sogni di Gianò.
