Antal Doráti conducts three works by Ludwig van Beethoven with three different ensembles: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55 “Eroica” with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Wellington’s Victory, Op. 91 with the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Egmont Overture, Op. 84 with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra.
Recordings
The programme brings together three performances conducted by Antal Doráti: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”, the London Symphony Orchestra in Wellington’s Victory, and the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra in the Egmont Overture.
Three Beethoven perspectives
The programme contrasts three very different aspects of Beethoven’s writing: the formal breadth of the Eroica, the descriptive character of Wellington’s Victory, and the dramatic concentration of the Egmont Overture.

What are DSD and DXD?
DSD (Direct Stream Digital) is a 1-bit digital encoding system based on pulse-density modulation. DSD64 operates at approximately 2.8 MHz, DSD128 at approximately 5.6 MHz, and DSD256 at approximately 11.2 MHz. Playback requires a DAC or player compatible with the selected DSD rate.
DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition) is a very high-resolution PCM format; in the version offered here it operates at 352.8kHz. Originally developed also as a professional editing and post-production environment for very high-resolution workflows, it requires a compatible DAC or player.
