Given the numerous facets of his work, it is perhaps not an overstatement to say that Bartók's tormented oeuvre represents the cornerstone of the entire twentieth century. The technical complexity is accompanied by a heterogeneous language that is not infrequently influenced by folk music, but also by the writing of Liszt and Debussy, drawing creative inspiration even from Couperin's ornamentation. Bartók could be defined as a musician of a thousand faces, and this album will attempt to reveal some of them.
