Hammond Brasileiro – Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim
Hammond Brasileiro – Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim grew out of two passions that have long accompanied Alessandro Albenga on his musical journey: the sound of the Hammond B3 and the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Alongside him, Ippolito Pingitore creates a rhythmic fabric of drums and percussion that brings out the Afro-Brazilian roots of the repertoire, while Elena Carraro appears as special guest on vocals.
The project goes beyond revisiting some of Jobim’s most beloved works. The Hammond becomes the centre of a soundscape where melody, Brazilian rhythm and European memory meet, through arrangements by Albenga himself. The album is released by Velut Luna as catalogue CVLD413.
The sound of memory
In the notes accompanying the project, Marco Lincetto connects these sounds with a precise Italian imaginary between the late 1960s and early 1970s: the summers of the economic boom, Brazilian and Latin music playing through the loudspeakers of seaside resorts and the “Rotonde sul mare”, as well as Italian comedy cinema and the atmosphere of Piero Piccioni’s film scores. Hammond Brasileiro thus also becomes a journey through memory, built around a repertoire that still speaks to the present.
