Jascha Horenstein conducts Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 in D minor with the London Symphony Orchestra, Norma Procter, the Ambrosian Singers and Wandsworth School Boys’ Choir.
Recordings
The recording was made at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, 27–29 July 1970 for Unicorn Records. The session belongs to the best-known core of Horenstein’s Mahler discography.
The vast architecture moves from the large opening movement through orchestral, vocal and choral episodes to the final Adagio. Horenstein maintains formal continuity and clarity across the work’s contrasting dimensions.
