Jascha Horenstein conducts two major symphonies by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64 with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74 “Pathétique” with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Recordings
The programme pairs the cyclic course and affirmative close of the Fifth with the radically different structure of the “Pathétique”, which ends with the Adagio lamentoso. Horenstein emphasizes clarity of transition and continuity of the symphonic arc.
