“Weke” is the cryptic and somewhat mysterious title of Vincenzo Cipriani’s new album.
A composer and excellent pianist, the Apulian author presents us, with his first album, an authentic musical "fresco."
This is an ideal “music for images”, which allows Cipriani to continue the noble tradition of the great Italian composers of film music, such as, to name the most illustrious, Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone.
The flexible core lineup, consisting of a small string orchestra and piano, presents varied atmospheres and moods, which, in the immediacy of a language accessible to all but by no means banal, allow the listener to immerse themselves in a musical poetics rich in color and emotion.
The album also closes with two original arrangements of a Beatles song, the exquisite lullaby “Good Night,” performed by an ethereal children’s choir and young Anna Cipriani as soloist, and two pieces by Astor Piazzolla, featuring soprano Maria Maddalena Notarstefano on “Ave Maria” and saxophonist Vito Soranno on “Inverno Porteno.” This is Vincenzo Cipriani’s tribute to two of his important musical influences.
Recorded by Marc Keno in the Church of San Felice delle Suore Francescane in Gravina in Puglia, this album was then mixed and mastered in analog domain by Marco Lincetto, using a prestigious Neve series 80 analog console.
