The history of Sony Music Italy begins in the 1950s with the creation of RCA Italiana in Rome, the Italian branch of the prestigious American record company of the same name. Over the next twenty years, RCA Italiana, thanks to a team of legendary managers (including Ennio Melis, Nanni Ricordi, and Vincenzo Micocci) and extraordinary producers such as Luis Bacalov, Piero Piccioni, and Ennio Morricone, produced and launched most of the artists who would go on to shape the history of contemporary music and Italian songwriting. It also produced the most important soundtracks of the extraordinary era of Italian cinema between the 1960s and 1970s and acquired several important Italian labels (including Dischi Ricordi-Produttori Associati and Numero Uno).
