INTRODUCTORY REMARKS
The purpose of this album is to present music of exceptional interest, performed by outstanding musicians and recorded according to demanding production criteria. The notes that follow are intended as a reference for understanding how the recording was conceived and for comparing that reference with the behaviour of a playback system. A system that sounds different from this reference is not therefore “wrong”: it simply presents a different result. If that result is satisfying, there is no obligation to change it. This album is intended only as an additional listening tool, not as an absolute rule.

The listening system used to prepare this guide is the same reference monitor system used during production:

1 - DYNAMICS
The tracks feature high or very high dynamic range, which varies according to the music and to the recording and mastering techniques used. Because the programme brings together different genres, venues and recording dates, the tracks were not dynamically normalized against one another. The listener may therefore need to adjust playback volume from track to track, using track 1 as the conventional reference point.

2 - SOUND IMAGE
All tracks were evaluated through the Velut Luna reference monitor system used during production. The intended soundstage extends in width, height and depth within the reference geometry of the listening/mastering room: broadly between the centres of the left and right loudspeakers, with the front plane aligned with them and the furthest depth approximately one and a half metres behind their front axis. This is the production convention adopted for these recordings.
