Nessun compositore Ottocentesco di primo piano ci ha lasciato brani cameristici, men che mai in duo, che prevedono l’uso solistico della tromba; e vale forse la pena di interrogarsi brevemente sulle ragioni dell’assenza pressoché totale dello strumento dal repertorio. Nonostante il mezzo secolo trascorso e le ormai infinite edizioni che da allora si sono susseguite, la versione della Terza Sinfonia, così come la ricreò Bernstein con la N.Y. Philharmonic nel 1961, rimane al vertice della discografia di questa composizione. Questo box riproduce per intero quella memorabile produzione, aggiungendo sul secondo CD un’autentica rarità, ossia la grande scena finale della\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eTetralogia\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ecos’ come la registrò Bernstein in quello stesso 1961 con Eileen Farrel nel ruolo di Brunilde. Naturalmente, l’influsso di Karajan è stato maggiore in Europa e quello di Berstein in America. In ambedue i casi, tuttavia, il passare gli anni non solo non ha appannato questo approccio: lo ha esaltato al punto che, oggi, questi famosi dischi sono imprescindibili per chi voglia conoscere il compositore russo. In questa proposta ci sono le più incisive registrazioni di Bernstein relative al periodo 1957-1963.
