Without frills or intricate embellishments of any kind, it is music made with taste and joy, and played with heart. The Metronomes are three, and their music is a fiery and pulsating blend of swing, boogie and jumpin'jive. In short, it's cheerful music, the kind that makes you tap your foot and laugh to yourself even if you don't understand the words because they're in English. Or you do understand them, because you know English or because they're in Italian, and they're very sad. And you laugh just the same. Checco Michielin, a sumptuous vocalist with a tarred throat, is the charismatic leader of the group. He moves on stage like an alcoholic feline. He sings, screams, whistles, talks, mumbles tangled notes. He is the terror of the ladies in the first two rows. Carlo Piccoli, supreme pianist, accompanies his companion with his style, sometimes fluid, sometimes bouncy. He also whistles. And sings, in the backing vocals. Finally, Stefano Fedato, the drummer, the euphoric, unpredictable, restless engine of the group, always ready to infuse the music of the evenings with the boldest speeds. He also whistles (before starting). And sings, in the backing vocals. The bass is completely absent. The bass line, I am told, is provided by the left hand of the piano, that is, Carlo Piccoli.

The CD is available exclusively for the Italian market.

Listen

The Metronomes combine swing, blues, boogie and jumpin’ jive with compositions by Carlo Piccoli and American classics.
