According to Otto Jahn, who mistakenly gave Siprutini's name, Leopold Mozart made many efforts to convert Siprutini to Catholicism during his stay in London in 1764. Many of his performances are documented in the 1770s. Among his students was John Crosdill, the most famous English cellist of the eighteenth century. Leopold Mozart met Siprutini in 1764, during his stay in England with his prodigious young son. Struck by his talent as a cellist, he tried to convince him to convert to Catholicism, but Emanuel calmly remained Jewish.
